Water Park fun

On our last day, we enjoyed a water park near Quebec. Actually, it was a bit warmer than it sounds. Even more suprising was that it was a well put together park. We stayed all day and had a blast!

Quebec City

From Maine 2009

From Maine 2009

From a cabin in Maine to a luxury old Canadian railroad hotel, Quebec has been quite a change. We all have had fun walking through the city. We all like to pretend we can speak french. My french is like a bad Inspector Clouseau impersonation.

Deep in the Maine Woods

From Maine 2009

Spent three days in a rustic cabin in the Maine Northwoods on a remote lake called Namakanta. It was quite an adventure just getting there. There was 28 miles of gravel logging roads just to reach our lodge. Our TomTom thought we were in the middle of the woods.

No cellphone coverage, no Internet, no TV, no electricity.

So what did it have?

Plenty of wildlife. We saw a couple Moose, beaver, a fox, a couple bald eagles, lots of loons, and plenty of biting bugs.

A cool cabin. The cabin had gas lamps and a wood stove which we kept going. KK and I made the mistake of loading the wood stove before we went to bed on the first night thinking it would keep us warm through the night. This was a mistake. We woke up an hour later in a sweaty mess. We had to open all the windows to cool the cabin off.

The camp cooked all our meals which felt pretty decadent.

The kids got to have the run of the camp. Jack played along the shore doing battle with the lake with the rocks. Annaka made friends with the daughter of the owners of the camp and even had a girls sleepover.

KK and I got to do a little bit of kayaking and got the whole family in a canoe. We even hiked a bit of the AT which was nearby and met some hikers heading to Georgia.

A fun time had by all.

Acadia National Park

It was cool and overcast with some rain as we explored Acadia National Park yesterday. Annaka collected lots of rocks, and "crab and lobster" parts along the beaches. Jack was being Jack and tried to climb rocks too big along the way and got really soaked playing too close to the waves. All good.

The highlight was probably hiking the tallest mountain here, Cadillac Summit. It was 50 degrees on the summit, but felt like 35 with the wind. I am not sure if we all were dressed too appropriately.

We all had to get along in our smallest cottage yet for the last two days. Today we will head to Maine Northwoods. We will probably be off the grid for three days. Our cabin there has no electricity.

LLBean and Lobsters

We ate up our way up the coast. Annaka ate lobsters, mussels, and clams. Jack was a little unsure.

Arrived in Portland

We haven't eaten lobster yet, but we took the kids on a boat ride where they helped pull some lobster traps. Good for all of us to learn where our next dinner comes from.
